L’ouvrière (loo-vree-air) is a French noun with two meanings: “the workwoman” and “the worker bee”. This dual meaning perfectly defines the joint effort of  women and bees at L’ouvrière, a beeswax candle studio in upstate New York.

Owner-operated and housed in a converted barn in the beautiful Northern Catskills, L’ouvrière has been producing pure beeswax candles since 2003.

Our candles are made with 100% pure beeswax, one of nature’s perfect products, which results in candles that are long-burning with the delightful scent of honey.

The beeswax is colored in small batches with aniline dyes and then cast in a variety of shapes from standard tapers to sculptural forms for seasonal and holiday use. New designs are regularly added to our line of molds, many of which are made in our own studio

L'ouvriere candles are hand poured  and made to order.    Check in from time to time, or read our blog  to see what's new,   and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have questions or comments.
